West End 8 2022

It was great to get back to league action at the West End 8 yesterday. We lost a few of the 40-odd who entered to injury (and some obscure football match in Paris!), but we still had 30 take to the start line, including debutants Emma, Dave Brownlow and Martin Crighton. It was also Grace’s first taste of the LRRL. On a perfect day for running, Mo took a fantastic 2nd place and was joined in the top 10 (9th) by John McDonald. John might have been making a cautious return from injury, but he still managed to pocket the V40 prize. Our dependable scorers Gurmit (29th) and Rambo (71st) were joined in the top 100 by two of our big improvers, Sam J (70th) and Mike (83rd). Leah (30th) led the ladies home and was well backed up by Jackie (41st) and captain Anna (67th, despite having done a 20-miler the day before). There were lots of other good runs, but the most important thing was that everyone seemed to enjoy the morning. Draft results can be found at: lran.org.uk

UPDATE:

I don’t think there was any racing over the Jubilee weekend, but there’s plenty to catch up on from the West End 8. At the time, I missed that it was also Nigel’s first LRRL race and the Bronze Standard he achieved should be a confidence booster. By my reckoning, there were 8-mile PBs for Helen A, Sam J, Harry and Blake. In full, the Standards were Platinum (Mo), Diamond (John McD) Gold (Jackie, Mike, Gummi, Dave L), Silver (Dave Brownlow, Rambo, Sam J), Bronze (Anna, Chris W, Helen W, Leah, Nigel, Terry), Copper (Blake, Charly, Dave Bullivant, Harry, John D), Pewter (Brian, Cath, Emma, Martin C, Valerie) and Tungsten (Charlotte T, Grace, Lee, Mat J). Well done all.

You might have expected parkrun on Saturday to have been quiet, but Mo obviously hadn’t got the memo, taking his customary P1 in his first sub-16 time since injury. There was a course-best for Hazel and Shila ran her best time since lockdown. Martin Capell hit the 150 mark at Braunstone and there was some ace tourism going on; Somerdale Pavilion (John and Charlotte), Disley (Liz), Broadwater (Martin W), Hastings HS (Julian) and Penistone (Harry).
