February Round Up

Week 1

Charnwood Hills was the big event of the weekend. Results are not expected until later this evening, but I know Sam J, Adrian, James B, Helen W, Kathryn, Marcus and Dave P all ran.
UPDATE: Sam J led the Hoggs in 47th place and CorroHogg Dave P also made the top 100. It was great to see James Boyd back racing and also ex-member Chris Peach. Dave W, Marcus, Nick and Adrian were the other men out on the hills. Kathryn showed she is getting the hang of this cross country lark, finishing first V50 and she was joined by Helen W. Elsewhere, Brian had his annual trip to the Watford Half, showing he’s in good shape by taking 6 minutes off last year’s time.

Mo set a PB of 15.03 in the Leicester Victoria parkrun, slicing 5 seconds off his course record and was 5th fastest in the UK over the weekend. Whilst no one else managed a PB, there were plenty of strong runs, including Kathryn grabbing P1.

Week 2

This week Dave W and Kathryn warmed up for Marathon season with the Goodwood 20. Dave set a PB of 2.32.51 and Kathryn finished one place behind in 2.33.01 and was first V50.

Week 3

We got to run a scenic new cross country course at Ravenstone yesterday. In contrast to normal, it was flat, super-fast and dry. With beautiful sunshine, mild temperatures and more cake than an episode of Bakeoff, it was the perfect way to spend a Sunday morning. A big thank you to everyone for car-sharing. Mo much prefers the dry conditions, so it was no surprise that he romped to a fourth straight success. Anna led the ladies home in 39th. Sam will do a full report once we have some results. We should also have some success to report with the individual prizes.

I missed Mike’s result in the Wrexham HM from last week; he ran 1.29.40, so our 2022 ‘Most Improved Athlete’ is off to a flyer in 2023! This week, Brian was off taking the sea air as he continued his usual early season race programme with the Deal Half Marathon, finishing in 2.58.52 (5 minutes quicker than 2022). Gurmit, meanwhile, was running round in circles at the British Masters Indoor Championships in Sheffield. He had two good days, gaining a 1 second PB in the 800m and slicing a whopping 10 seconds off his best in the 1500m.

Week 4

What a big weekend! The LRRL kicked off with the now traditional opener of the Stilton 7 and we had a magnificent 32 finishers. We also had 4 members take on the Leicestershire Half Marathon at Prestwold Hall. Our half Marathoners had a successful morning with PBs for Blake (1.38.09), Sophie (1.58.36) and Komal (2.00.05). Nick (1.50.49), our other finisher, pretty much matched his best as well.

It’s going to take me a while to work through all the performances from yesterday, which I know included some PBs. Mo was imperious at the front and there were LRRL debuts for Ashveer, Steve K and Dan C. Roadhogg team spirit was much in evidence and it was good to see so many people starting their seasons with strong performances. Draft results are attached.

Usually, parkrun is a bit quieter on a race weekend, but it seems no one got the memo this week. Whilst some were obviously taking it easy, Blake decided to go for it and was rewarded with a PB.
