Imagine running a 171km race. Now imagine running one that includes 10,091m of climbing! To achieve that is something really special, so massive congratulations to Fiona, who completed the Ultra-Trail de Mont Blanc at the weekend in 37.47.03. This was the culmination of many years of dedicated training and chasing the necessary qualifying race points to just be in with a shot of getting one of the 3000 places. Fiona won her age category (naturally!), finished 45th woman and 618th overall. She even managed to remember to smile at the strategically placed webcams round the course! The overall winner was Kilian Jornet, arguably the best ultra runner on the planet, who broke the course record and was the first under 20 hours.
Second claimer Dave Pearce strutted his stuff on the track yesterday, recording a big season’s best in the 3000m and showing the youngsters what dedicated training (and natural ability) can achieve, whatever your age.
One result I missed from a week ago was Sam J’s top 10 finish (8th) in the Garendon Gallop Trail 10K (TBF, they still haven’t published official results). His time of 41.30 was impressive for an off road course.
