50K seems to have been the popular distance this weekend, but there seems to have been a divergence of views over elevation. Harry went for the low road with a 50K ultra along the Thames, which was part of a bizarre ultra-triathlon. Participants (but not Harry, I hasten to add) swam 5km in Loch Ness, then biked down to the Thames over 5 days (1000km) before finishing with the 50km run. The high road was the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia 50K, which included 11,000ft of elevation and was completed by Fiona (1st V55) in 8.52.03, Anna (12.46.22) and Hayley (12.46.23). The Snowdon weather gods are known for their sense of humour, but it looks from the photos like our ladies got away with just ‘moody’.
Gurmit was in Tampere in Finland, representing India at the World Masters Championships. No medals this time, but just being there must have been pretty special.
Following up from the Prestwold 10K, Standards achieved were as follows: Platinum (Mo and John McD), Gold (Jackie, Mike, Gurmit and Dave L), Silver (Sam, Anna, Dave Brownlow and Rambo), Bronze (Adele, Chris W, Leah, Neil, Nigel and Terry), Copper (Blake, Dave Bullivant and Hilary Browne), Pewter (Brian, Cath, Julian and Martin Crighton), Tungsten (Grace and Mat J).
Teamwise, things are moving in the right direction. Men 2/8 (Div2), Women 5/8 (Div1), Vet Men 4/8 (Div1), Vet Women 5/8 (Div1) and Mixed 6/8 (Div1).
