Ladies’ Road Running Captain
I’m a late convert to running, I had enjoyed team sports at school, and dabbled with cycling and swimming, gym and trampolining whilst at university, but running always seemed like hard work!
But in late 2013, motivated purely by getting the kids active, I signed us up for a Race for Life at Leicester race course and dragged a reluctant 68yr old round the course.. and surprised myself by loving it! I didn’t want it to be over and seem to remember I packed them off in the car and ran home just for fun.
Within a matter of weeks of occasional runs (and lots of talking up my new found love for running) I was offered a charity place to run the London marathon with my nephew who was recovering from lymphoma. Having never contemplated a marathon, but never able to turn down an opportunity.. I said yes! And in April 2014, I ran my first London marathon.
After that I was hooked. I Tried my hand at a few sprint triathlons and joined Leics Tri club for a while.. but I’m a rubbish cyclist.
Marathons quickly became my drug of choice, clocking up a couple per year. London ( 5) , Berlin, Paris, Brighton(3) Worcester.. With my new found miles I did a number of obstacle races and mud runs, best of those was the “man vs mountain” over Snowdon and a RatRace Burleigh 20 miler with 200 obstacles, but I soon wore my friends out and needed to find more resilient/ mad folk to run with and realised how little I knew about how to train or run well. Happily I found Roadhoggs and joined at the end of the 2020 season and have loved running with this fabulous group of humans.
Fellow Roadhoggs (Dave and Fiona) have given me a taste for trail running and I’m a novice “ultra” runner with just 2 x 50km races to my name so far.
You’ll find me most weeks at Tuesday and Wednesday training, cross country and the road league whenever I can.
Do come and say hi if you’re new – be great to meet you!
MY PBS & ACHIEVEMENTS
2022 highlights were London and New York marathons and a fabulous crazy ultra in Snowdonia with RH’s Fiona and Hayley and Equinox 24 with our brilliant ladies team… and of course being ladies captain.
2023 started with a spring season off the long stuff to think about speed work under Sam’s expert guidance for a few months, but I’m back chasing marathons again alongside those stubborn park run times and looking forward to moving into the v50 time category next year!!
