Have you felt like you’ve lost condition during the strange times we’ve been living through? You’re not alone: a lot of members have mentioned that they feel they’ve lost form over the last couple of years.
For some, competitions being suspended left them without firm targets to aim for. For others, the huge effort of living through a pandemic meant they were forced to put training on the back burner. Members who have been infected with Covid have also noticed that it’s taking longer than they expected to recover stamina, pace and energy.
Whatever your reason, help is at hand! The Club is offering a short conditioning programme to arm you with useful tools to help improve your resilience to injury, increase your strength and boost your running efficiency. With regular conditioning, most runners find that they can run a set distance quicker, or at the same pace with less effort. Either way, running is just a lot more enjoyable!
The conditioning sessions will be complementary to the Tuesday night coached sessions. Put it this way: if the aim of the Tuesday sessions is to improve the performance of your engine, the aim of the conditioning sessions is to strengthen the chassis so it supports a more powerful motor.
The weekly 45 minute sessions take place indoors. They will involve a combination of exercises and drills (using body weight and simple equipment) plus a Pilates-style section designed to strengthen the deep core muscles for improved stability. The programme is progressive, but don’t let that stop you: you’ll still get plenty out of it, even if you join in late or can’t make every session. A yoga/exercise mat isn’t required, but feel free to bring one if you want!
The first block of four sessions will start on Thursday, 17th March 2022 at 6.30 pm. If there is enough interest, there will be a further block of sessions after the Easter holidays. The first session will be completely free of charge. After that, we suggest a voluntary donation of £2 per person per session (to help us cover room hire).
We will be using the Dance Studio on the first floor of the Knighton Tennis Centre, Sir Jonathan North College, Knighton Lane East, LE2 6FU. To access the Centre’s car park, enter through the College’s vehicle access gate then follow the road down the side of the College and go through the metal gates at the bottom (on the left). Reception is accessed by following the footpath around the side of the building (don’t go through the doors that face onto the car park – these lead directly onto the tennis courts and are only open for ventilation). If you look at the location on Google Maps, please be aware that the pin is incorrectly positioned – the Tennis Centre is the large rectangular building on the edge of the College site.
