Barry Waterfield

It is with great sadness that I share the news that Barry has died. His funeral will be at Countesthorpe Crematorium South Leicestershire at 1pm on Tuesday 10th December. The wake will be at Braunstone Civic Centre, Kingsway, LE3 2PP. All are welcome.

Barry joined Roadhoggs when the club merged with Braunstone Town Runners. He served on the committee for many years and led Monday training from St Andrews throughout his time with the club. He was made a life member in 2014. He ran his final league race at Huncote in 2016 as a V80 (57.10 for 5 miles), having celebrated his 100th race at the same venue the year before, and was still running well into his 89th year.

I will miss the way his face lit up when he greeted people and the warmth he always exuded when spending time with other club members. He used to love his regular routes from St Andrews, particularly one along the canal to Abbey Park, which was always his choice for the first run of the summer. We used to tease him by trying to guess which route he had chosen. A true gentleman, he will be much missed.
