July Round Up

Week 1

What a great morning it was at the Steve Morris 5 yesterday. The good conditions produced lots of great performances and the team spirit was fantastic. Mo was back to his best, winning the race, Gurmit was top vet, Kathryn was first V55 and Ruth was first V55. There were PBs for Charlotte, Helen W, Gary, John D, Ashveer, Mo, Mark Richards, Gurmit and Nick. Nicole got her first Bronze and Jackie hit Diamond.

After Sunday’s results, Adele has completed a Copper standard, Gary a Pewter, Jackie a Gold, and Mo a Platinum. Ashveer has upgraded to Bronze and Cath and Tim have upgraded to Copper.

Elsewhere, Blake completed Ironman 70.3 Bolton in 6.57.05 (Ironman 70.3 is the new name for Half Ironman; 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run). Sally did an innovative multi-stage trail run round Sheffield in a pair with her daughter Sophie (27th in 1.51.05 for 20km of stages).

Week 2

We had 6 runners in the Watermead 5, with Ian A (31.13) and Sarah V (46.45) getting PBs. Other results were Nigel (38.55), Neil (40.53), Chris W (41.57) and Sandra (56.11). On Wednesday, it was the Windmill Fell Race and our representatives were Dave P (25th), James B (32nd) and Marcus (70th).

One previous result that I missed was Sophie, Sanjay and Lou all completing the Ultra London 55k (8.21.16) a couple of weeks ago.

The latest league tables are a bit of a mixed bag. Our Senior Men added a couple of points in their fight against relegation from Div1, but our Senior Women are now in real danger of losing their runners-up spot in Div 2. Our Vet Men and Vet Women strengthened their holds on 3rd and 4th place, respectively, but our mixed team is now effectively in the Div 1 relegation zone.

Week 3

We had a 1, 2, 3, at Leicester Victoria on Saturday (Mo, Amar and Ashveer) and a 150 milestone for Gurtej.

Week 4

Last Wednesday saw our annual handicap competition. There were some really strong runs with Geraldine being the winner and James B first man. A special mention for Haseeb and guide, Captain Dave, for getting so close to the win.

Nicole braved the warm conditions on Sunday to run the Draycott Water 10k

At parkrun, there were milestones for Minisha (100), Grace (50) and Emma (25). Mo also recorded his quickest time at Leicester Victoria (15.02), which was enough to see him top the weekly UK list for the first time!

Week 5

Captain Dave was in action on Wednesday in the County 10,000m, finishing 11th in 39.21.7 and the previous weekend, Martin W had a go at Triathlon, completing the Guildford event in 1.44.59.

At parkrun there were a trio of Hoggette first finishers, Geraldine (Leicester Victoria), Ruth (Abbey Park) and Nicole (Corby). Geraldine also smashed her PB and there was a 150 milestone for Randeep.
